Hunter is best known for his deep grooves, informed by his tutelage by fellow Bay Area shred legend Joe Satriani, years busking on the streets of Paris and playing with Michael Franti in The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy. Post-1990s, his love of the blues came to the fore. Hunter told NPR, "The most important thing that I listened to growing up was my mom's music. She had all these records playing that, as a teenager, were incredibly embarrassing if friends were over. Rev. Gary Davis and Blind Blake and Mississippi John Hurt, Leadbelly, the list goes on and on." His performance on The BlueShore at Cap stage will also feature vocals and Cuatro Venezolano (four-stringed instrument from Venezuela) instrumentation by 19-year-old Silvana Estrada, from Veracruz, Mexico, and Carter McLean on drums.
