Iannis Xenakis' Kraanerg
3rd April 2009, 8pm
Commissioned for the opening of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa in 1968, Kraanerg was originally performed as the score for a ballet choreographed by Roland Petit. Xenaxis noted that the work's title referred to the "current youth movements" of the time, and the piece was written amidst the tumultuous social and political events of that same year. Kraanerg is a chamber piece for woodwinds, brass, strings and electro-acoustic tape, and is Xenakis' longest running work at 75 minutes. The work will feature recorded and live projections by Giorgio Magnanensi.
